Abraham Esteve Núñez discusses pioneering materials for sustainability in Puzzle X

Published On: November 15, 2022

Frontier materials set to revolutionize industry, urban planning and mobility are the stars of the second edition of PUZZLE X, which begins on Tuesday in Barcelona. Dr Abraham Esteve Núñez, head of the Bioe Group, talks with other researchers from the IMDEA institutes at this event devoted to cutting-edge technologies for a sustainable future.

Electromicrobiology, a field in which Dr Esteve Núñez conducts research, explores the electrical interplay between microorganisms and redox active materials, such as electrodes and solid-phase minerals. “The development of new sustainable materials is one of the trends to optimize the transfer of electrons between microorganisms and electroconductive materials, and its subsequent application in sustainable soil and water decontamination processes, among others,” he points out.

Besides Dr Esteve, researchers from IMDEA Energy, Materials and Nanoscience are also part of the panel. Puzzle X gathers scientists, industry members, start-ups, investors, and materials technology companies.

PUZZLE X focuses on the role of frontier materials in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative is co-organized with the Smart City Expo World Congress and aims to accelerate transformation for a prosperous and sustainable future.
