Objetive

The SPIDERS (Sustainable Grassroots Programs and Initiatives for Household Water Security and Hydrological DisastEr Risk Reduction Strategy) project aims to strengthen water security and resilience to hydrological disasters through the development of a community-driven innovation ecosystem. The project seeks to identify, develop and upscale grassroots strategies that address water scarcity and hydroclimatic extremes by combining local knowledge, advanced socio-ecological research and multi-level governance processes. To achieve this, SPIDERS will establish an international network of Living Labs across several continents, bringing together communities, researchers, public authorities and key stakeholders to co-create sustainable and locally adapted solutions.

General activities

• Develop and strengthen partnerships between local communities and research institutions to promote citizen engagement, capacity building and knowledge transfer in water security and disaster risk reduction.
• Establish Grassroots Knowledge Co-Creation and Transfer Centers as hubs for innovation, experience sharing and community empowerment.
• Develop analytical tools based on monitoring data, observations, citizen science and socio-ecological modelling to improve understanding of water security challenges and hydrological risks.
• Design climate and socio-economic scenarios, as well as risk assessment tools, to support decision-making and the planning of adaptation and resilience strategies.
• Promote dialogue and collaboration with public authorities, international organizations and funding bodies to facilitate the integration of project outcomes into policies, regulatory frameworks and investment mechanisms.
