Guillermo Pelaz Guerra holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of León (2023), a Master’s Degree in Microbiology from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2015), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Salamanca (2014).

His research activity has focused on bioelectrochemical systems, with particular emphasis on the development of technologies for waste valorization and energy recovery. His main research lines include CO₂ conversion into methane, advanced wastewater treatment, and the design and optimization of bioelectrochemical fluidized-bed reactors.

His experience combines expertise in microbiology, environmental engineering, and bioelectrochemical processes, applied to the development of technologies for the circular economy, waste valorization, and sustainable wastewater treatment.

From 1 September 2026, he is employed as a postdoctoral researcher on MADisWATER Project ‘Madrid is water: Vital technologies for water sustainability in Madrid’, file number 59/323466.9/25, funded by the Community of Madrid and co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund within the ERDF Operational Programme of the Community of Madrid for the period 2021-2027, within the framework of the call for 2025 for grants to contribute to the improvement of public-private cooperation in R&D&I through consortium projects with a knock-on effect.
