Objectives

  • We aim to harmonize Managed Aquifer Recharge and Alternative Water Resources practices within EU regulatory structures to address the complexities and challenges of ensuring long-term water sustainability.
  • Through MARCLAIMED, we seek to bolster social acceptance, awareness, trust, and reliability in alternative water resource sustainability systems. Our goal is to improve not only their efficiency but also their cost-effectiveness.
  • We are committed to engaging a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including decision-makers, public and private water sectors.
  • Our project encourages a behavioral transition, promoting greater awareness and trust in Managed Aquifer Recharge and Alternative Water Resources technologies.

General activities

  • Utilize specific tools to enhance the design, operation, and planning of Managed Aquifer Recharge with Alternative Water Resources, focusing on climate adaptation in water-scarce regions using forecasting and virtual sensing technologies.
  • Implement advanced operational and digital tools to optimize Managed Aquifer Recharge performance, assess water footprints, and promote water reuse strategies at the municipal and basin levels.
  • Integrate Managed Aquifer Recharge with Alternative Water Resources into strategic river basin management plans.
  • Engage stakeholders to co-create effective Alternative Water Resources strategies and foster social acceptance.
  • Develop and implement economic tools to assess benefits, forecast outcomes, and enhance investment returns of Managed Aquifer Recharge projects.

Expected results

  • Mobilize research centers and SMEs to share insights and best practices in water resource management.
  • Achieved good quantitative and chemical status in 10 groundwater bodies, with ongoing promotion of sustainable practices in three Living Labs.
  • Contribute to the EU AI strategy, ensuring the development of trustworthy, human-centric AI solutions in water management.
  • Enhance measure prioritization in water management and reduce operational costs by 25%.
  • Implement comprehensive risk mitigation across 10 EU groundwater bodies, improving health, environmental, and performance outcomes.
