Title: Ecological risks of chemicals in the future

Description

Objectives The objectives of ECORISK2050 are:
(a) To assess how global climate change affects the input of chemicals from agriculture and urban environments, as well as their fate, transport and effects.
b) Identify possible adaptation and mitigation strategies.
c) Develop a toolkit for use by industry and policy makers. General activities The project organizes training and secondments for 13 early-stage researchers dedicated to addressing different aspects of the fate, effects and risks of chemicals in the environment.
The knowledge gained through experiments and modeling approaches developed under the project will help anticipate future chemical pollution risks.
Expected outcomes The project will produce the next generation of scientists, consultants and industrial and government decision-makers with the knowledge and skills to address the changing pressures on aquatic systems from chemicals emitted by agricultural and urban activities between now and 2050.   This project was evaluated by the European Commission as relevant in relation to the Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” and specifically for its contribution to the prevention and elimination of pollution: garbage and microplastics, as stated in the Portfolio Analysis EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”.
