IMPASSE
Details
Title: Impact of microplastics on agroecosystems and river ecosystems
Duration: 2017 - 2020
Research groups: Aquatic ecology and biotechnology
Description
Objectives The overall objective of IMPASSE is to assess the environmental fate, effects and risks of microplastics in agricultural and freshwater environments, and to find solutions that safeguard agricultural sustainability, economic objectives and human and animal health. General activities The project consists of four European and one Canadian partner.
Among other activities, the project plans to conduct field experiments to monitor environmental concentrations of microplastics, and laboratory experiments to test the impacts of microplastics on terrestrial and aquatic organisms. Expected results The project will provide knowledge on which to base the development of safe environmental policies and management of plastic use in the EU, and will develop a new model for the transport, distribution and fate of microplastics in soil and river systems.
