Description
Objectives The main objective of the INREMEM project is to recycle discarded reverse osmosis membranes (at laboratory scale) and transform them into membranes to be used in the treatment of water from different sources: wastewater, surface water and osmotic solutions. General activities INREMEM is studying the development and application of recycled membranes in 5 different water treatment technologies:
(a) biomembranes for surface water treatment,
b) membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment,
c) direct osmosis for wastewater treatment, d) electrodialysis for wastewater regeneration.
d) electrodialysis for the regeneration of osmotic solutions, and
e) membrane distillation for the regeneration of osmotic solutions. Expected results INREMEM provides an alternative membrane management pathway to landfill disposal of membranes at the end of their useful life.
INREMEM will contribute to the circular economy approach as well as to the European Union’s effort to become a “recycling society”.
