Objectives TAPAS is a four-year EU Horizon 2020 collaborative research project consisting of 15 partners and aimed at promoting and consolidating the environmental sustainability of the European aquaculture sector. General activities TAPAS research focuses on different aquaculture sectors by conducting eight different case studies in marine and freshwater environments.
These case studies will help to test, improve and develop new models for far-field and near-field environmental impact assessment, providing improved monitoring, observation, forecasting and early warning technologies. Expected results One of the main outputs of the project is the Aquaculture Toolbox, which provides tools and guidance to support aquaculture planning and permitting in Europe.
TAPAS will improve the public image of aquaculture and contribute to a better understanding of aquaculture sustainability in the EU.   This project was assessed by the European Commission as relevant in relation to the Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” and specifically for its contribution to the prevention and elimination of pollution: nutrients, chemicals, pesticides; as stated in the Portfolio Analysis EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”.
