Award to iMETland Project and interview with the project coordinator Abraham Esteve

Bioe Group PI Abraham Esteve Núñez, coordinator of the project iMETland, received the second prize for Best European Project during the ceremony of the XI Madri+d Awards held on 29 June at the Casa de America in Madrid. The Counsellor of Education, Youth and Sports of the Community of Madrid, Rafael van Grieken, chaired the event among other authorities.

iMETland is a project of H2020 programme composed of a group of eleven partners and coordinated by IMDEA Water. The project aims to build and validate an application to scale of a device for the treatment of urban wastewater in small communities with a zero energy cost while pathogen free water for irrigation is obtained. The jury valued “very positively” both technological innovation proposed and membership of principal investigator to an emeerging group.

With a budget of 3.5 million euros over three years, iMETland brings together universities, research centres and Spanish and international companies, with extensive experience and expertise in the field of water treatment, microbial electrochemical, information technology, carbon materials and the development of business and science communication.

PONS Intellectual Property endows the prize with an analysis of patentability of results worth 3,000EUR.

After the award ceremony, Abraham Esteve was interviewed. In this interview Abraham explain the characteristics and impacts of iMETland and offers us his vision about the advantages of the participation in such European projects.
