Elemental analysis techniques for pharmaceutical industry
IMDEA Water hosted a workshop focused on the use of these techniques
IMDEA Water hosted a workshop focused on the use of techniques of atomic spectrometry: ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma with optical emission spectrometry) and ICP-MS (inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry), provided by the company “Agilent Technologies”. During the course of this workshop, specialists in this field conducted both theoretical and practical sessions on the fundamentals and applications of the ICP-MS technique used in the pharmaceutical industry. This is the analytical technique with the greatest potential for the determination of elements at trace levels present in all types of matrices.
The main objective of this workshop was to guide users of ICP-MS in the analysis of impurities at trace levels (very small concentrations measured in parts per trillion-ppt or parts per billion ppb), mainly present in drugs that can be found in the environment.
IMDEA Agua actively participated in the development of this workshop offering and showing its facilities.
Within the diverse and multiple instrumentation available at IMDEA Water Institute, the ICP-MS technique is one of the most sought to carry out the determination of metals in all types of water and soil.
Those attending the event were: IMDEA Water Institute staff, academics and professionals from various pharmaceutical companies located in the Corredor del Henares (north east of Madrid region).
