Eloy García Calvo, recognised with an Honorary Silver Medal from the UAH

At the solemn opening of the new academic year held last week in Paraninfo (Assembly Hall), Professor Eloy García Calvo was recognised with the Honorary Silver Medal by the University of Alcalá (UAH). The former director of IMDEA Agua, currently an associated researcher at the Institute, has received this recognition from rector José Vicente Saz. With this distinction, his career and significant contributions to the academic and research field are highlighted
From 1992 onwards, he has been a full professor of Chemical Engineering at UAH after completing his doctorate in Industrial Chemistry from Complutense University of Madrid. He has been the director of IMDEA Agua since its creation until 2022.
As vice-rector for Research, he has managed several regional and national environmental research programmes. During his career, he has assessed international scientific projects and participated in 35 research projects, leading 32 of them. It has also collaborated with companies on 16 funded projects. He coordinates an important five-year project that involved 200 researchers stands out, for which he received an IWA award in 2012. In addition, this project was recognised as one of the most outstanding in Spanish science in 2012.
The Honorary Silver Medal is a symbol of excellence that is awarded to those people or entities that, inside or outside the university community, have distinguished themselves in teaching, research, management or collaboration with the institution’s own purposes.
