IMDEA Water has organised five activities in the Madrid Science and Innovation Week 2022
IMDEA Water participated in the Madrid Science and Innovation Week, held from 7 to 20 November. In this eighteenth edition, five face-to-face activities were organised at the Institute’s facilities.
Second year Baccalaureate students from Colegio San Luis de los Franceses (Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid) have participated in the activity Nature is wise: electric microbes to clean water, organised by the Bioe group. The participants learned how the metabolism of certain microorganisms can be used to purify wastewater at no energetic cost. They also learned how the metland® solution, based on these principles, works.
On the other hand, Baccalaureate students from IES Los Olivos (Mejorada del Campo, Madrid) attended the activities of the groups of microbiological pollution, soil and water quality in the environment, and membrane technology: Knowing the microorganisms of the environment: from classical to molecular methodologies, Water pollution and how to collaborate with nature to purify it and Join the plastic hunter team.



Finally, fourth-year primary school students from CEIP Nuestra Señora del Val (Alcalá de Henares, Madrid) took part in the activity Enredados (Entangled), given by the ecotoxicology group. The students discovered how pollutants in the environment affect aquatic life.
Madrid Science and Innovation Week is an event for scientific dissemination and citizen participation organised by the Community of Madrid through the Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d. Its aim is to actively involve society in the processes of research and development in science, technology and innovation.
