Smart Specialisation Platform

The European Water Platform (WssTP) and the European Regions Research and Innovation Network (ERRIN), organized a workshop in Brussels with the objective to share solutions and best practices and facilitate European regions to work on the water topic efficiently in the current financial programme, leading up to 2020.

During the meeting issues as water cluster development, water challenges and international collaboration were discussed.

Representatives of the DGs Environment and REGIO of the European Commission discussed the importance of considering water in the smart specialization strategies (RIS3), to facilitate the power to address water challenges. These challenges are included in the last communication document (COM(2015)/120) presented by the commission to the European parliament and the Council, about the “Water Framework Directive and the Floods Directive: Actions towards the 'good status' of EU water and to reduce flood risks”.
