Lorena Martínez, awarded at the One Health Congress for her work on the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria
Predoctoral researcher Lorena Martínez, from the Aquatic Ecology and Biotechnology group (AEB), has been awarded the best poster presentation at the 2nd One Health Congress, held from 28 to 30 May in Madrid.
The work Microbiome and resistant bacteria in the water-soil-plant continuum in a context of indirect reuse, received the One Health Award in the category Microplastics and other contaminants in the environment: consequences for plants, animals, and humans. The study evaluates the dissemination of antibiotic-resistant (ARB) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria in the water-soil-plant continuum. The results indicate that irrigation management plays a key role in the distribution of ARB in this context.
The One Health Congress addressed antimicrobial resistance as one of the main threats to global health. Under the theme Designing the Future with Certainty, the event brought together experts, policymakers and professionals from various sectors to develop integrated strategies that combine human, animal and environmental health.
The research reflected in the poster has received funding from the Nat4Health project (Project PID2020-118521RB-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033).
