Meeting of scientific journalists and researchers in IMDEA Water

The objective was to highlight the social, environmental and economic impact of water research

Science journalists and disseminators participated this morning in a meeting with IMDEA Water researchers. During the visit, the attendees – members of the Spanish Association of Scientific Communication – (AECC) – were received by deputy director Irene de Bustamante, and visited the facilities. The objective of this professional date was to show not only the scientific dimension of the research on water, but also its social, environmental and economic impact.

 

 

Throughout the morning, journalists learnt about the projects carried out in IMDEA Agua, such as AQUACROSSFILVER+, FatePharM, TAPASTRANSFOMEMiMETland and MIDES, among others. In addition, they talked with the principal investigators and researchers of the Hydrogeology, reuse and transport of pollutants group; Water Economy; Membrane Technology; Bioelectrogenesis (Bioe), and Ecotoxicology.

The session concluded with a tour of the center's facilities, during which they verified the advanced analysis and quality techniques of the different laboratories; they also visited the membrane pilot plants, microbial desalination, mesocosmos, green filters and bioelectrogenic wetland (METland). Attendees showed great interest in the projects, especially those related to the circular economy, desalination and sustainable water management.

The AECC is a non-profit organization, among whose founding purposes are the dissemination of scientific information among the general public, promoting its appearance in the different media and fostering the relationship between communication professionals and scientists.
