Anna Salvian holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Surrey (UK, 2025), where she was awarded a Doctoral College Studentship to develop biosensors based on microbial electrochemical technologies for optimizing water treatment processes. She is currently a member of the Bioe research group, led by Dr. Abraham Esteve-Núñez, where she focuses on integrating bioelectrochemical sensors with artificial intelligence tools to enhance water remediation in industrial and environmental settings. Her work contributes to both national and European research and innovation projects.

Anna earned her BSc in Food Science and Technology from the University of Udine (Italy, 2019) and completed an Erasmus+ placement at the Food, Water, and Environmental Microbiology Laboratory of Public Health England in London. She later obtained a master’s degree in Food Science with a specialization in applied engineering and genetics from the Free University of Bozen (Italy, 2021), where she contributed to an industry-linked project funded by the European Regional Development Fund aimed at reducing sugar content in fruit juices using biotechnological processes.

She has authored over eight peer-reviewed publications and one book chapter and has presented her research at multiple national and international conferences. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the Best Overall Poster Pitch (University of Surrey, UK) and the Student Travel Award from North American International Society for Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology (NA-ISMET, USA).

She was contracted as a postdoctoral researcher for the BEER4ALL project “Innovative Strategies based on biotechnology and electrochemistry for producing valuable products from brewery wastewater”, project CPP2021-008852, funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Union NextGenerationEU/ PRTR.

Since 1 October 2025, she has been a researcher on the TRINEFLEX project. This project is funded be the European Union’s HORIZON EUROPE research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101058174.
