PhD in Biology with specialization in Limnology at Uppsala University (2015-2020), where he studied the functioning of aquatic food webs and the bioaccumulation of essential biomolecules in response to environmental changes. After his thesis (2020-2024), he joined the Department Aquatic Sciences and Assessment in the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Sweden), where he studied responses of Arctic freshwater biodiversity and food webs in response to rapid Global Warming. In parallel, he has collaborated in multiple projects of global relevance from the Global Lake Observatory Network (ZooSize), European Federation of Freshwater Sciences (Europonds), the European Biodiversity Partnership (Arctic Biodiver), etc., in subjects such as global change, size-spectra, food-web ecology, fish ecology, indirect interactions, nutritional ecology and evolution, aquatic-terrestrial linkages and ecosystem services.

Fernando joined IMDEA Water in 2025, as a Postdoc in the CyaNoServices project, where he studies the effects of toxic cyanobacterial blooms on aquatic and terrestrial insects and their ecosystem services’ provisioning across three climatic zones. CyaNoServices project is funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and co-financed by the European Union.
