Francesco earned a bachelor’s degree in Energetic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin, followed by a master’s degree in environmental economics (with honors) at the University of Turin. After a visiting period at the University of Salamanca (USAL) for his master’s thesis, he joined USAL’s research group led by Dr. Dionisio Pérez-Blanco, completing a Ph.D. in Economics with the highest honors (“international mention” and extraordinary award). During his Ph.D. he conducted visiting periods at institutions like IVM-VU in Amsterdam and CMCC in Venice and participated in different international conferences. His thesis introduced a hydro-economic framework, addressing agricultural water scarcity under deep uncertainty. Francesco’s research focuses on Coupled Human and Natural System modeling, integrating multi-model ensembles to tackle uncertainty and ensure robust policy assessment. His approach bridges economic and environmental goals, with plans to incorporate behavioral economics into agricultural modeling.
He joined IMDEA Water as a postdoctoral researcher in November 2024 in the framework of the TRANSCEND project. Since February 2025 he is a postdoctoral researcher on the WaterTheft project. This project is funded by the European Union’s HORIZONTE EUROPE research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 101124884.
