Jesús holds a PhD in Hydrology and Water Resources Management from the University of Alcalá (2019), where he obtained the Extraordinary Doctoral Prize in Science. His work focuses on the monitoring and control of harmful algal blooms. Jesús worked as a researcher at IMDEA Water (2014-2019), where he developed biofilters based on recycled membranes for the treatment of water contaminated with microcystins (INREMEM project). In addition, he was coordinator of the CianoAlert and CianoMOD projects, focused on remote detection and early warning of cyanobacteria in freshwater.
Jesús has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in different research centers around the world, including Okayama University (Japan, 2019-2021) and the European Regional Center for Ecohydrology (Polish Academy of Sciences under the auspices of UNESCO, 2021-2023). Since July 2023, Jesús was working as a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University (ASU) in the USA. He was involved in several research projects related to the use of nanobubbles for water treatment, including harmful algae removal, aquaculture or hydroponic crop improvement.
Jesús has participated in more than 8 national and international competitive projects and is the author of more than 17 scientific publications, a monographic book, two patents and a large number of dissemination articles. He has made numerous contributions to national and international conferences, and has actively participated in multiple outreach activities. In addition, Jesús teaches in the blended mode of the Master in Hydrology and Water Resources Management at the University of Alcalá, and in the Master of Science in Applied Ecohydrology, within the Erasmus Mundus program.
Since June 2025, Jesús has been a postdoctoral researcher at IMDEA Water, working on the SMARTHAB project. This research project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under the HORIZON-MSCA-2023-PF-01 call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF), grant agreement No. 101153931.
