He received his PhD in 2015 from the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB)-China in environmental science and engineering. His doctoral research project was funded by Action Contre la Faim (ACF) International, France, and focused on sustainable sanitation technologies for vulnerable populations, where he played the role of research project manager. He received an International Excellent Student Award and an Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award from USTB. His research focuses on water security, sanitation, humanitarian engineering and planetary health worldwide. He has over 20 years of experience in teaching, community research and project implementation. He has supervised more than 50 undergraduate and graduate theses and has published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, book chapters, technical guidelines and policy briefs. He has participated in more than 20 research and development projects, where he has played different roles, including the leadership of projects supported by several agencies such as IDRC-Canada, European Commission, United Board-USA. At IMDEA Agua he is working on the MARCLAIMED project. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 101136799.
