He received his PhD in 2015 from the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB)-China in environmental science and engineering. His doctoral research project was funded by Action Contre la Faim (ACF) International, France, which focused on sustainable sanitation technologies for vulnerable population where he played Research Project Manager role. He received an International Excellent Student Award and an Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award from USTB.

His research focuses on Water Security, Sanitation, Humanitarian Engineering, and Planetary Health across the world. He has over 20 years of experience in teaching and community-based research, and project implementation. He has supervised over 50 undergraduate and graduate theses and published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, book chapters, technical guidelines and policy briefs. He has participated in more than 20 research and capacity development projects and played different roles including Project Leadership supported by various donor agencies such as IDRC-Canada, European Commission, United Board-USA.

At IMDEA Water, he works on the MARCLAIMED project. MARCLAIMED is funded be the European Union’s HORIZON EUROPE research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101136799.
