In Crete

Last week the H2020 TAPAS project (Tools for Assessment and Planning of Aquaculture Sustainability) partners joined forces in Crete for the Third Annual TAPAS meeting held in Anissaras, Crete.

During the Annual Meeting, the partners presented their progress over the past year, as well as their future project plansand deliverables.

Prior to the meeting, the partners participated in two workshops. One workshop discussed the recommendations for new, flexible approaches to aquaculture licensing and regulatory processes, as well as the bottlenecks to the licensing process. The second workshop focused on the testing of the Aquaculture Sustainability Toolbox, the major outcome of the TAPAS project.

Andreu Rico, researcher of the ecotoxicology group at IMDEA Water, was involved in in this second workshop  participated in several discussions about how to use the results of the case-studies to validate the models for the fate of antifouling agents and antibiotics. Moreover, it was discussed how the different models and tools, as well as knowledge generated through the project, will be integrated in the Aquaculture Sustainability Toolbox. This toolbox is a key tool for fostering the spread of aquaculture in a sustainable manner as well as to increase the efficiency of licensing and aquaculture environmental impact assessments in the different EU member states.

TAPAS (Tools for Assessment and Planning of Aquaculture Sustainability) is a Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Action funded by the European (Grant agreement Nº 678396) with 15 partners from 10 differents European countries.
