In 2025, IMDEA Water continues to strengthen its position as an international leader in water research, addressing key challenges such as water security, climate change adaptation, and the circular economy.

The report highlights the center’s scientific activity, including international projects, knowledge transfer, and extensive outreach and training efforts. It also emphasizes growth in funding and its active role in the development and implementation of water policies in the European Union, in collaboration with institutions and public administrations.

“This report reflects the enthusiasm, commitment, and excellence that define the daily work of our diverse, interdisciplinary, and international team,” says the director of IMDEA Water, Irene de Bustamante. “Thanks to this collective effort, the institute not only generates high-impact scientific and technical knowledge, but also actively contributes to improving how our societies understand, plan, and manage a resource as essential as water.”
