Ana J. Vega de Armas, awarded at the BES2024 Symposium
Ana J. Vega de Armas has obtained the second prize for the best communication in poster format during the XXVIII International Symposium of Bioelectrochemistry and Bioenergetics from the Bioelectrochemical Society held from May 19 to 24 at the University of Alcalá. The work proposes a bioelectrochemical system (BES-BioH2) as a feasible alternative for wastewater treatment and hydrogen production. The award is sponsored by the academic publishing house Elsevier.
A jury made up of five people has awarded this prize to the poster REGENERA: Research on microbial electrochemical technologies for hybrid energy storage for water industry sustainability, in which Vega de Armas studies a bioelectrochemical system (BES) to produce hydrogen in a sustainable way against to conventional wastewater treatment plants. Energy consumption is lower than that of industrial electrolyzers.
Ana J. Vega de Armas is a research assistant at the Bioe group. She has a master’s degree in advanced biology from the University of Seville and has worked with photosynthetic organisms. In February 2023 she joined IMDEA Agua.
The REGENERA project belongs to the Misiones programme within the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2021-2023, a project subsidized by the CDTI, EXP 00146202.
