IMDEA Water has participated, as every year, in the Madrid Science and Innovation Week, held from November 4 to 17. In this XXIV edition, we have carried out several workshops and a visit. Students from the 1st year of high school of IES Atenea (Alcalá de Henares), have learned in the activity organized by the Bioe group how we use the metabolism of certain electroactive bacteria to monitor water quality in remote environments.

On the other hand, students of 3⁰ ESO of the IES Gabriela Mistral (Arroyomolinos) have participated in the activities“Exploring the microbial diversity of water: from invisibility to get their DNI“,“Are we in the Plasticocene?” and Exploring membranes and micropollutants: science and sustainability. These activities have been organized by the Mycobial Ecology Unit, the Soil and Water Quality in the Environment group and the Membrane Technology group, respectively.

Finally, in collaboration with Canal de Isabel II, the guided tour“Visit to the Torrelaguna Mini Hydroelectric Plant and Floating Solar Plant” was organized. The attendees were shown the historic Santa Lucía mini-hydroelectric plant. They were also able to see the first floating photovoltaic panels to produce clean electricity that Canal de Isabel II has installed in the lower reservoir of the centenary mini-hydroelectric plant.

The Madrid Science and Innovation Week is an event of scientific dissemination and citizen participation organized by the Community of Madrid through the Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d whose objective is to actively involve society in the processes of research and development in science, technology and innovation.
