IMDEA Water participates in the MADisWATER hub, a strategic initiative to promote water sustainability in Madrid. The project aims to foster a circular water economy by reusing treated wastewater and strengthening the resilience of the Community of Madrid to challenges related to the importance of reusing water resources and water efficiency.

The project, coordinated by Repsol, kicked off last week. This public-private innovation hub brings together key partners from the water sector and industry, including Canal de Isabel II and Metfilter, and focuses on minimizing the water footprint and improving resource availability in the urban and industrial water cycle.

IMDEA Agua is participating in this initiative through three of its research groups – Bioe, Membrane Technology, and Economic and Institutional Analysis – which are contributing their complementary scientific and technological capabilities. The project will support the development of advanced solutions for the treatment and regeneration of urban and industrial wastewater, and the implementation of intelligent sensor-based systems for real-time monitoring and optimization of treatment processes.

MADisWATER Project ‘Madrid is water: Vital technologies for water sustainability in Madrid’, file number 59/323466.9/25, funded by the Community of Madrid and co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund within the ERDF Operational Programme of the Community of Madrid for the period 2021-2027, within the framework of the call for 2025 for grants to contribute to the improvement of public-private cooperation in R&D&I through consortium projects with a knock-on effect.
