Erasmus student from University of Milano-Bicocca

​​Italian Julia Pascualini is doing her Master's Degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of Milano-Bicocca. During the period from March to September of 2017 she has been at IMDEA Water developing her thesis with Ecotoxicology Group under the direction of Marco Vighi.

What does your job consists of?

My Master’s project focuses on toxic effects and the potential recovery of aquatic populations and communities exposed to different concentrations of neonicotinoid insecticide in use. The study has been carried out using freshwater mesocosms in order to a better understanding of the ecosystem’s responses.

Why did you choose IMDEA Water for an internship?

My Professor Marco Vighi told me about this outstanding opportunity to conduct my thesis research in IMDEA Water.

How this internship helps you to advance in your research?

Carrying out my Master’s project in IMDEA Water helped me to gain further professional but also personal skills.

Especially, being part of an international team, surrounded by people that come from different research groups and backgrounds created a very intellectually stimulating and multicultural working environment.

Furthermore, each team member had a relevant role in the project and had to demonstrate a serious commitment to the implementation and success of the project.
